What Is the Widow Pension Scheme in Gujarat?

The Gujarat government runs a dedicated financial support programme for widows called the Ganga Swarupa Arthik Sahay Yojana. The scheme was originally called Vidhva Sahay Yojana. The government renamed it to Ganga Swarupa Yojana to give beneficiaries a dignified identity.

The scheme provides ₹1,250 every month. The amount goes directly into the widow's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Payment happens in the first week of every month. No middlemen, no cash, no delays when your account is properly linked.

The Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of Gujarat runs this scheme. It covers all 33 districts | from Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara to Kheda, Patan, and the tribal belt. The scheme also integrates with the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), the central government's social security umbrella.

Eligibility for Widow Pension in Gujarat

Who Can Apply

• The applicant must be a widow | her husband must have passed away.
• She must be a permanent resident of Gujarat.
• Her age must be between 18 and 60 years at the time of application.

• Women who have remarried after the death of their husband.
• Women already drawing any other state or central government pension.

• Women who are not permanent residents of Gujarat.
• Women below 18 years of age.

What Happens After Age 60?

When a Ganga Swarupa beneficiary turns 60, she becomes eligible for the Gujarat Old Age Pension Scheme (Vridha Sahay Yojana). She should apply for the old age pension at least 60 days before her 60th birthday to avoid any gap in monthly payments.

Gather every document before starting your application. Incomplete submissions are the most common reason for rejection or delay.

How to Apply for Widow Pension in Gujarat | Offline

The offline process is the most widely used route. It works through Jan Seva Kendras, Mamlatdar offices, and gram panchayat-level Village Computer Entrepreneur (VCE) offices.

1. Visit your nearest Jan Seva Kendra or Mamlatdar office

   You can also visit the Gram Panchayat in rural areas. Take all original documents and self-attested photocopies. The VCE (Village Computer Entrepreneur) at the panchayat will assist you if needed.

2. Collect and fill the application form

   Ask for the Vidhva Sahay / Ganga Swarupa Yojana form at the counter. Fill all fields in clear block letters. Match your name spelling exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card. A nominal form fee of ₹20 may apply at some centres.

3. Handle the "JavabPanchNamu" section carefully

   The form asks whether a "JavabPanchNamu" (witness verification) is required. If YES, bring two witnesses to the office on the same day. If NO, proceed directly. For the caste/senior citizen certificate question, answer honestly | if you do not have one, submit an affidavit at the relevant office.

4. Attach all required documents

   Attach self-attested photocopies of every document listed in the previous section. Keep originals handy for verification. Do not skip any document | missing papers are the top reason for delayed processing.

5. Submit the form and collect the acknowledgement slip

   The officer will verify your documents on the spot. After submission, collect an acknowledgement receipt with an application number. Save this number. You will need it to check your application status later.

6. Wait for verification and approval

   The Mamlatdar or Taluka Development Officer (TDO) verifies your application. If approved, an approval letter is issued. Your pension starts from the following month after approval. Payment arrives in your bank account in the first week of each month.

How to Apply for Widow Pension Online in Gujarat

The Digital Gujarat portal lets you start the application from home. However, physical verification at the Mamlatdar office is still required to complete the process.

1. Register or log in at digitalgujarat.gov.in

2. Navigate to the Ganga Swarupa Yojana application

   From your dashboard, click Citizen Services. Select Women and Child Development or search for "Vidhva Sahay" or "Ganga Swarupa" in the search bar. Click the scheme name to open the application form.

3. Fill the online form carefully

   Enter your personal details | name (exactly as on Aadhaar), date of birth, date of husband's death, address, district, taluka, and bank account details. Double-check your bank account number and IFSC code. One wrong digit and the payment fails.

4. Upload your documents

   Upload scanned copies of all required documents. Each file must be in PDF or JPG format and under 200 KB. Use good lighting for phone-scanned documents. Blurry or cropped uploads cause rejection. Compress large files using iLovePDF or Smallpdf (free tools).

5. Submit online and save the application number

   Review every field. Click Submit. You will get an application number on screen and via SMS. Save or screenshot this number immediately.

6. Submit hard copy at Mamlatdar office or Jan Seva Kendra

   Print the submitted application form. Bring it along with original documents to your nearest Mamlatdar office or Jan Seva Kendra. This physical verification step is mandatory. The pension does not activate without it.

How to Check Widow Pension Status Online in Gujarat

After submitting your application, you can track it through two official channels.

Method 1 | Digital Gujarat Portal

1. Log in at digitalgujarat.gov.in

   Use your registered mobile number and password. See our login guide if you have trouble accessing the portal.

2. Go to Service Requests

   Click on Service Requests from the dashboard menu. You will see all applications linked to your account.

3. Enter your application number

   Type in the application number from your acknowledgement slip. The current status will appear | Under Review, Approved, Pending for Verification, or Rejected. If any documents are missing, the portal shows a note.

Method 2 | NSAP Portal (nsap.nic.in)

Once your application is approved and enters the central DBT system, you can track payments through the NSAP portal.

1. Open nsap.nic.in

   Go to the National Social Assistance Programme portal at nsap.nic.in in your browser.

2. Click "Reports" then "State Dashboard"

   Select Gujarat from the state list. You can see beneficiary-level data for IGNWPS-linked payments.

3. Search by Aadhaar or application number

   Enter your Aadhaar number or the application number from your receipt. The system shows whether your pension has been processed and paid for each month.

Widow Pension List Gujarat | How to Check Your Name

The WCD Department and the NSAP portal publish district-wise beneficiary lists periodically. To check if your name appears in the widow pension list in Gujarat, visit nsap.nic.in and navigate to the beneficiary list for Gujarat. You can search by district, taluka, and name. Pension Approved But Amount Not Received in Bank

Your bank account may not be NPCI-seeded (Aadhaar-linked for DBT). Visit your bank branch with your Aadhaar card and ask them to link it. You can also check the seeding status at resident.uidai.gov.in. Once seeded, the next payment cycle will credit the amount.

Application Rejected | What to Do

Log in to the Digital Gujarat portal and open your Service Request. The rejection note will state the exact reason. Common reasons include: expired income certificate, name mismatch between Aadhaar and death certificate, missing "not remarried" declaration, or inactive bank account. Fix the specific issue and resubmit.

Status Stuck on "Under Review" for More Than 45 Days

Visit your Mamlatdar office in person. Take your acknowledgement slip. The officer can check whether the application is held up for document verification or is awaiting district-level approval. You can also call the helpline at 1800-233-5500.

Wrong Bank Details Submitted

You cannot edit a submitted application. Visit your Mamlatdar office and request a correction. Carry the original bank passbook and Aadhaar card. The officer will update the details in the system before the next payment run.

Pension Stopped Without Reason

Pensions are suspended when the annual re-verification is missed, when the beneficiary turns 60 (see old age pension transition), or when a death or remarriage is reported. 6 Things to Do Before You Submit Your Application

1. Link Aadhaar to your bank account (NPCI seeding)

   This is non-negotiable. The pension comes through DBT. Without NPCI seeding, the payment will bounce back even after approval. Do this at your bank branch before applying.

2. Get a fresh income certificate

   The income certificate must be dated within the last 12 months. Older certificates are rejected. Apply for a new one at your Mamlatdar office or through digitalgujarat.gov.in.

3. Ensure your name spelling matches exactly across all documents

   Your name on the application, Aadhaar, income certificate, death certificate, and bank account must be identical. Even small differences cause delays. Get corrections done before applying.

4. Get a digital death certificate from the CRS portal

   Old handwritten certificates from hospitals or panchayats may be questioned. A digitally verified death certificate from the Gujarat CRS portal (crs.guj.nic.in) carries more weight and speeds up approval.

5. Prepare the "not remarried" declaration

   This can be a simple affidavit on stamp paper or a certificate from your gram panchayat/ward office. It is asked on the application form. Not having it ready delays the process.

6. Keep a photocopy of your submitted application

   Always keep a copy of the filled form and acknowledgement slip. If a dispute arises or the application is lost, this copy is your only proof of submission.
