Arms License in Gujarat
The Arms Act, 1959 allows Indian citizens to obtain Non-Prohibited Bore (NPB) arms licenses for valid reasons. In Gujarat, arms licenses are issued by the District Magistrate (DM) / Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the concerned district. Applications can be submitted online at ndal-alis.gov.in (National Database of Arms Licenses portal) or in person at the Arms Licensing branch of the District Magistrate / Collector's office.
Types of Arms Licenses in Gujarat
- Self-Defence: For individuals who face a genuine threat to their life due to wealth, occupation, or credible threats. Requires proof of threat.
- Crop Protection: For agricultural landowners needing protection from wild animals/pests. Requires land records.
- General Security: For security firms, banks, government institutions, and protection squads of VVIPs/politicians.
- Sports Shooting: For registered sports shooters affiliated with shooting associations.

Select category, state, district and licensing authority
Choose your category (Individual), State (Gujarat), District (e.g. Ahmedabad), and Name of Licensing Authority (DM/SDM).
Fill identity, additional, and license-specific details
Complete all form sections: applicant identity, reason for license (self-defence/crop/security/sports), and license-specific information.
Upload documents, save registration number, print and submit
Upload all documents and photograph. Save your online registration number. Print the application form and submit it at the District Magistrate / SDM office with applicable fees. Police verification will follow.
Arms License Renewal
- Submit renewal application at least 1 month before expiry
- Apply online at ndal-alis.gov.in
- Produce your firearm and license for inspection at the DM office
- Pay renewal fee: ₹1,500 for 3 years (state or all-India license)
- Senior citizens: physical fitness and mental alertness verification may be required
