RTE Admission Rajkot: Quick Answer
What it is: Under the RTE Act 2009, private unaided schools in Rajkot reserve 25% of Class 1 seats for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged families. The seat is free.
Who qualifies (2026-27): Born June 2, 2020 – December 1, 2020, family income up to ₹6,00,000 a year, living in the school's catchment area.
How to apply: Online only at rte.orpgujarat.com. Selection is by lottery, not merit or interview.
Current status: The 2026-27 window is closed (deadline extended from April 17 to April 23, 2026). Use this guide to prepare for the next cycle.
Rajkot is a district with a large urban core (Rajkot Municipal Corporation area) and rural talukas such as Jasdan, Jetpur, Gondal, Kotda Sangani and Dhoraji. Which schools appear for you depends on your registered address, so ward and village matter more here than a district-wide school count.
About seat numbers. Some third-party sites quote about 6,640 RTE seats in Rajkot for 2026. We could not confirm this on an official page, so treat it as an estimate. Exact per-school seats are on the portal's school list.

RTE Rajkot Eligibility 2026-27
All three conditions must be met.
1. Age
The child must be at least 5 years 6 months and not more than 6 years old on June 1, 2026. In dates:
| Birth date | Result for 2026-27 |
|---|---|

| June 2, 2020 – December 1, 2020 | Eligible |
| December 2, 2020 or later | Too young (under 5 years 6 months) |
The portal checks age to the exact day. Add 1 year to these dates for the next cycle only after the official notice confirms the new cut-off. Do not assume.
2. Family income

- The certificate must be issued by the Mamlatdar or Taluka Development Officer
- Families with a PAN card who do not file returns may need a self-declaration of non-taxable income
3. Residence
The child must live in Rajkot, and the schools you pick must be ones the portal shows for your address. Schools outside your catchment will not appear in the list.
Priority Categories in the Lottery
Gujarat gives priority to orphaned children, children with disabilities, and children of migrant workers, followed by SC/ST, SEBC and other EWS families. Within each priority tier selection is random. Confirm the current order in the year's official notification.

Top Mistakes That Cause Rejection
- Wrong age. Being even one day outside the eligible range triggers automatic rejection.
- Name or date mismatch between Aadhaar and birth certificate.
- Old or unofficial income certificate. Use a current Mamlatdar or TDO certificate only.
- Blurry or cropped uploads that fail verification.
- Choosing only far-away or very few schools. Pick the schools the portal offers near your address.
- Missing the 72-hour window after selection.
- Inactive mobile number, so result alerts are missed.
