Quick answer: RTE admission in Ahmedabad gives eligible children a free Class 1 seat in a private unaided school under the RTE Act 2009. Apply online at rte.orpgujarat.com with an Ahmedabad address and a Mamlatdar or TDO income certificate up to ₹6,00,000. Seats are allotted by computerized lottery. Ahmedabad city had about 14,200 seats in 2026-27, and the window closed April 23, 2026.
What Is RTE Admission in Ahmedabad?
Every private unaided school must reserve 25% of Class 1 seats for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged groups. These seats carry free tuition from Class 1 to 8, plus ₹3,000 a year by DBT for books and uniform. The process is run statewide by the Directorate of Primary Education, as explained in our RTE Admission Gujarat 2026-27 guide.
Ahmedabad is Gujarat's biggest RTE market. Statewide, 2026-27 saw over 2.49 lakh applications for 84,228 seats in 9,709 schools, roughly three applicants per seat. Ahmedabad city's share is the largest, so competition is high and correct paperwork matters.
City vs Rural: Which Ahmedabad Do You Belong To?
Ahmedabad has two administrative tracks. Your address proof decides which one applies, and the portal shows only schools near that address.
| Track | Covers | Income certificate from |
|---|---|---|
| Ahmedabad City (AMC area) | Areas under Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits | City Mamlatdar zone office or Jan Seva Kendra |
| Ahmedabad Rural | Talukas such as Daskroi, Sanand, Bavla, Dholka, Viramgam, Dhandhuka, Detroj-Rampura, Mandal | Taluka Mamlatdar / TDO |
Seat counts and school lists are published by district on the portal. Our numbers are reported figures; always confirm the school list for your own ward on rte.orpgujarat.com.
