What Is One Nation One Ration Card in Gujarat?
ONORC is a national portability system. If you hold an NFSA ration card issued in Gujarat, you can collect your monthly grains from any ePoS-enabled fair price shop in India after Aadhaar biometric verification.
The scheme started in August 2019 as an inter-state pilot and Gujarat was among the first four states to join, alongside Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra. It now covers 35 states and Union Territories.
Your Gujarat ration card does not change. There is no separate ONORC card. Portability works through the Aadhaar numbers linked to your existing card and the ePoS machine at the shop.
Who Can Use ONORC?
You need three things: an AAY or PHH card, Aadhaar seeded for the member who will collect, and a working fingerprint or iris on record. Not sure of your card type? See our guide to NFSA eligibility in Gujarat.
How to Use ONORC: Step by Step
The whole process takes about 15 minutes at the shop once your Aadhaar is seeded.
- 1Confirm your card type
Check that your card is AAY or PHH. Use the status steps in our ration card status guide.
- 2Seed Aadhaar for each member
Link Aadhaar to the ration card through a Jan Seva Kendra or the Mamlatdar Office.
- 3Go to any fair price shop
The shop must have an ePoS device. Carry your ration card number or Aadhaar number. Carrying both is safest.
- 4Verify with fingerprint or iris
The device fetches your entitlement from your home state's database in real time.
- 5Collect grains and keep the receipt
Check the weight and the printed slip. You can collect part now and the balance later in the same month.
Aadhaar Seeding for Your Gujarat Ration Card
Seeding links each member's Aadhaar to the ration card record. Without it, the ePoS device cannot verify you outside your home shop.
- Take the ration card and original Aadhaar of each member to a Jan Seva Kendra or the Taluka Mamlatdar Office
- Give both numbers and complete biometric verification
- Ask for a receipt or confirmation and check the update after a few working days
- Children whose biometrics are not updated should get a mandatory biometric update at an Aadhaar centre
Also link your bank account if you want direct benefit transfers. Our Digital Gujarat registration guide explains how to set up your citizen account.
Migrant Workers in Gujarat: Getting Ration Without a Gujarat Card
Workers from other states do not need a Gujarat ration card. Use your home-state NFSA card at any Gujarat ePoS fair price shop with Aadhaar authentication.
This matters in industrial belts such as Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Morbi, where many workers come from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. Do not apply for a new Gujarat card while holding one at home. A person cannot hold two cards, and duplicate entries get cancelled.
Mera Ration App: Check Entitlement and Find Shops
Mera Ration is the government mobile app for ONORC users. It is available in multiple languages including Gujarati and Hindi.
- Log in with your ration card or Aadhaar number and verify by OTP
- View your monthly entitlement and past transactions
- Find nearby fair price shops and their status
- Report problems or share feedback on a shop
You can also use the IMPDS portal for ONORC transaction data and the National Food Security Portal for scheme information.
Entitlement and Price Under ONORC
Portability does not change how much you get. Your entitlement follows your home card.
| Card Type | Monthly Entitlement | Portable? |
|---|---|---|
| AAY | 35 kg per family | Yes |
| PHH | 5 kg per person | Yes |
| APL (non-NFSA) | As per state policy | No |
Grains are free under the current central allocation for NFSA households. Always verify current rates with your shop or the NFSA Gujarat page, as allocations can change.
