What is NMMS Scholarship?
NMMS (National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship) is a central government scheme. It pays ₹12,000 per year to selected students from Class 9 to Class 12. In Gujarat, the State Examination Board (SEB) runs the Class 8 selection test. You need 55% in Class 7 (50% for SC/ST). Family income must be ₹3.5 lakh or less. For 2026-27, the form closes on 24 October 2026. The exam is tentatively on 5 December 2026. Gujarat has 5,097 seats each year.

What is NMMS Scholarship?
NMMS (National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme) is a central government scholarship. The Ministry of Education started it in 2008. It helps bright students from low income families stay in school after Class 8.
The Digital Gujarat Scholarship covers many classes. NMMS is only for Class 8 students who pass a state selection test. Selected students then renew the scholarship each year from Class 9 to Class 12.
Per Year
₹1,000 per month goes to the student's bank account by DBT through PFMS. Payment runs from Class 9 to 12.
Duration
The scholarship covers Class 9, 10, 11 and 12. Total benefit is up to ₹48,000 if you renew every year.
Gujarat Quota
India awards one lakh fresh scholarships each year. Gujarat gets 5,097 of them, as stated in the 2026-27 SEB notice.
Who Can Apply for NMMS Scholarship in Gujarat?
You must meet every condition below. There is no caste restriction. All categories can apply, including General.
Class & School Type
You must be a regular Class 8 student. Your school must be government, local body (district panchayat or municipal) or government-aided. Private, self-financed, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya and government residential school students are not eligible.
Minimum Marks
You need 55% or more in Class 7 to sit the exam. SC/ST students need 50%. The same limits apply to your Class 8 marks at the time of selection.
Family Income
Parental income from all sources must not exceed ₹3,50,000 a year. Upload an income certificate from the Mamlatdar, Taluka Development Officer, Talati cum Mantri or Chief Officer.
NMMS Selection Test
Pass both MAT (Mental Ability Test) and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). You need 40% in aggregate across the two papers. SC/ST students need 32%. SEB ranks students on merit within the state quota.
Study Location
You must be a regular student of an eligible Gujarat school. The scholarship is paid only for studies in India.
Renewal Conditions
You need clear promotion from Class 9 to 10 and Class 11 to 12 in the first attempt. You need 60% in Class 10 (55% for SC/ST) to continue to Class 11 and 12. Renew on NSP every year.
NMMS Exam Pattern 2026-27
SEB Gujarat holds the selection test in Class 8. The exam has two papers, MAT and SAT.

How to Apply for NMMS Scholarship in Gujarat 2026-27
There are two stages. First you apply for the exam on sebexam.org. After selection, you apply for the money on NSP.

Keep Your Documents Ready
You need your Class 7 marksheet, income certificate and Aadhaar card (front and back). Add a caste certificate if you apply as SC, ST or OBC. Keep a recent photo and your signature as JPG files of 15 KB or less. Your name must match your Aadhaar.

Fill the Online Form on sebexam.org
Open sebexam.org and choose Apply Online. Select the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme for Std 8. Fill in the details and upload your files. Ask your school principal how your school is submitting the form.

Submit by 24 October and Pay by 26 October
Check every detail before you confirm. Pay the fee online by card, net banking or UPI. Print the confirmed form and the e-receipt.

Appear for the Exam
Download your admit card from sebexam.org when SEB releases it. Sit for MAT and SAT. The tentative exam date is 5 December 2026.

Check the Result
SEB publishes the result and merit list on sebexam.org. Note your seat number and merit rank. Selected students move on to the NSP stage.

Create Your OTR on NSP
After promotion to Class 9, go to scholarships.gov.in. Create a One Time Registration (OTR) with your Aadhaar or Enrolment ID. Finish the eKYC step.

Apply for NMMSS on NSP
Log in with your OTR. Choose the NMMSS scheme. Fill in your personal, school and bank details and upload your documents. In 2026 the window opened on 1 June.

Verification and Payment
Your school (level 1) and the district office (level 2) verify the form. The money goes to your bank account by DBT through PFMS. Renew on NSP every year until Class 12.
