Government Scholarships That Cover B.E. and B.Tech Students

Central government bodies run several schemes built specifically for engineering and technical courses.

The All India Council for Technical Education runs three main schemes for engineering students. Pragati supports girl students with ₹50,000 a year. Saksham helps students with 40% or more disability. Swanath covers orphans and children of armed forces personnel. All three apply through the National Scholarship Portal after a one-time registration. Postgraduate engineering students with a valid GATE score can also claim a monthly AICTE GATE scholarship. Class 12 toppers from low-income families get help through the Central Sector Scheme for basic sciences and engineering. These schemes do not need a separate scholarship exam. Your board marks, GATE score, or admission rank decide eligibility.

💡 Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal before you apply for any AICTE scheme. Without OTR, the application form will not open.
📌 Course-specific note: Pragati, Saksham and Swanath apply only to AICTE-approved diploma and degree programmes. Plain arts or commerce degrees do not qualify under these three schemes.

Engineering Scholarships in Gujarat 2026-27: MYSY, Post-Matric & Hostel Aid

Gujarat runs two main scholarship routes for B.E. and B.Tech students, plus a separate hostel benefit.

MYSY: For Students Who Scored 80% or More

MYSY stands for Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana. It rewards students who scored 80% or more in Class 10 or Class 12. The scheme stays open to every category, including General and EWS students. Family income must stay below ₹6 lakh a year. Admission must come through ACPC counselling, based on your GUJCET or JEE Main score. Once admitted, MYSY pays your tuition fee up to the approved ceiling. It also gives a one-time grant for books and equipment. Engineering students living away from home can claim hostel support too. Read the full MYSY scholarship guide for application steps.

Post-Matric Scholarship: For SC, ST, OBC and EWS Students

Post-Matric scholarship works differently from MYSY. It serves SC, ST, OBC, SEBC, EWS and Minority engineering students from Class 11 to PhD. There is no 80% mark requirement here. Income limits change by category, from ₹2.5 lakh for SC and ST to ₹8 lakh for OBC and EWS. The scheme covers tuition fees and a maintenance allowance for daily expenses. You cannot claim both MYSY and Post-Matric for the same fee amount. Pick the scheme that matches your category and income best. See the Post-Matric scholarship guide and the OBC-specific guide for exact steps.

Hostel Allowance for Out-of-City Engineering Students

Many engineering colleges sit far from a student's home taluka. Gujarat allows hostel allowance only when your college falls outside your native taluka. This rule applies under both MYSY and Post-Matric scholarship. The amount covers hostel fees or mess charges, paid directly to your bank account. You must upload your hostel admission letter and fee receipt as proof. Day scholars who live at home do not qualify for this benefit.

How GUJCET Links to Your Scholarship Eligibility

GUJCET itself does not pay any scholarship money. It works as the entry gate instead. Your GUJCET or JEE Main score decides your rank in ACPC counselling. That counselling process allots your engineering seat. MYSY and Post-Matric both ask for a valid ACPC admission letter as proof. Without this letter, your scholarship application gets rejected at the verification stage. So a strong GUJCET score helps in two ways. It secures a good college, and it unlocks scholarship eligibility through valid admission proof.

Beyond Gujarat

Engineering Scholarships in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Other States

Every state runs its own scholarship portal for engineering students.

Gujarat is not the only state with engineering-specific aid. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam all run their own scholarship portals. Most follow the same pattern as Gujarat. Category-based schemes serve SC, ST, OBC and Minority students. A separate merit or income-based scheme serves General and EWS students. Each state sets its own income limit and amount. Always apply through your home state's portal, not another state's site.

Karnataka

Karnataka uses the State Scholarship Portal, known as SSP, for pre-matric and post-matric students. Engineering students from SC, ST, OBC and Minority categories apply here. Income limits range from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh depending on the department. The Vidyasiri scheme adds hostel support for backward-class students living away from home. SSP also issues the free-ship card once your Aadhaar e-KYC clears.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra runs its scholarships through the MahaDBT portal. The EBC scheme helps open-category engineering students from low-income families, including those in Mumbai. Post-Matric scholarship on the same portal covers SC, ST, OBC, VJNT and SBC students. The Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj fee scheme also waives tuition for several reserved categories. All payments reach students through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam

Tamil Nadu runs Post-Matric scholarships through its e-Grantz portal for SC, ST and Minority engineering students. Kerala uses its own e-Grantz system alongside a Merit-cum-Means scheme for professional courses. Assam offers Post-Matric and Minority scholarships through the state Directorate of Higher Education. Eligibility and income limits differ in each state, so check the current notification before applying.

Engineering Scholarship Options by Category

Pick the scheme that matches your category first, then check income limits.

Your category decides which door to knock on first. Many students qualify for more than one scheme, but total aid usually cannot cross your actual fee.

  • SC students | use the Dr. Ambedkar scholarship or general Post-Matric scholarship.
  • ST students | apply through tribal Post-Matric, which carries a lower income cap.
  • OBC / SEBC students | need a Non-Creamy Layer certificate before applying for Post-Matric OBC.
  • EWS / General students | rely on MYSY or the EBC/EWS scholarship.
  • Minority students | check central Minority schemes through the National Scholarship Portal.
  • Students with disability | apply for AICTE Saksham first, since it sits above most category-based schemes.
Private Scholarships

Private and Corporate Scholarships for Engineering Students

Companies and trusts add extra support on top of government schemes.

Several Indian companies fund scholarships for engineering students through CSR budgets. Tata Trusts and Tata Capital run multiple programmes, often linked to the group's founder, Ratan Tata. The Sitaram Jindal Foundation gives monthly support from Class 11 to postgraduate level. Reliance Foundation and the Aditya Birla Group reward top JEE and CAT rank holders. KC Mahindra Education Trust focuses on meritorious students, including those heading abroad for a master's degree. Infosys Foundation and Siemens run smaller, course-specific awards for science and engineering students. LIC HFL Vidyadhan supports meritorious students from low-income homes. These cycles change every year, so confirm current dates on each foundation's own application page.

💡 Private scholarships rarely repeat the same deadline every year. Bookmark each foundation's page and check before the academic year starts.

Year-Wise & Exams

Scholarships for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year Engineering Students

Your year of study decides which schemes you can still apply for.

Most government schemes, including MYSY, Post-Matric and AICTE Pragati, accept fresh applications in the first year. After that, you renew every year instead of applying fresh. Renewal needs a minimum pass percentage, no pending dues, and an updated income certificate. Several private scholarships stay open to second and third-year students too. Reliance Foundation, Rolls-Royce Wings4Her and the Sitaram Jindal Foundation all accept later-year applicants. A few schemes only open for specific years, so always read the eligibility line first. Lateral-entry diploma students joining the second year through AICTE Saksham or Pragati can also apply as fresh candidates.

Do Engineering Scholarships Need a Separate Exam?

Most engineering scholarships skip a separate scholarship exam. They use marks you already have, like Class 10, Class 12, GUJCET, JEE Main or GATE. The NMMS scholarship is one exception, since it runs its own test at Class 8 level. Some private foundations and exam-based platforms do conduct their own entrance test before awarding funds. Read each scheme's notification carefully before assuming a written test is required.

Study Abroad

Scholarships for Engineering Students Going Abroad

Indian engineering graduates have several funding routes for a master's degree overseas.

Engineering graduates planning a master's abroad have more than one funding route. KC Mahindra Education Trust offers an interest-free loan-scholarship for postgraduate study overseas. The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation and Tata Trusts both fund select Indian students at top global universities. Aditya Birla Group also runs an overseas component for its top scholars. The National Overseas Scholarship, run by the central government, supports SC, ST and notified category students for a master's or PhD abroad. Civil, mechanical and computer engineering departments at many foreign universities also offer their own scholarships for international students, including Indians. Most of these ask for a GRE or equivalent score, an English test score, and a confirmed admission offer before you apply. Apply early, since most overseas scholarships close months before the academic intake.
